You See, I See, We See CND

I was really excited to get my hands on some beautiful colors and effects by CND recently. I’ve never previously been able to play with their products so I couldn’t wait- and let me tell you they didn’t disappoint!

I did a quick stucco/abstract design that reminded me a bit of another quick design I did ages ago but hestitated on posting. Regardless, I really enjoyed working with these shades. Let me just say that I used a bunch of effects but you can’t see much of them here because of the angle and as such, I’ll be doing ANOTHER, much more refined design with these polishes in the very near future!

For this design I used OPI Nail Envy as a base, followed by an amazing one coater of CND Miss Wu. I then used a small brush (But NOT my regular one- don’t want to ruin it) to sort of sponge/smudge different shades on. I used (all CND) Midnight Sapphire, Scarlet Letter, Plumville, Dark Amethyst, Raisin in the Sun, Veronica, and Brigette as the colors. I topped random places with Copper Pearl, Sheer 24K Sparkle, Gold Shimmer, and Raspberry Sparkle. I topped everything with a swipe of Seche Vite.

I am absolutely in love. The creme’s are on coaters, the effects absolutely transform all of the shades so you have at least twice as many options, and everything dries really quickly. I can’t wait to do more designs with the effects showcased because they’re gorgeous. The Sheer 24K Sparkle is a gold flakie effect from this Fall/Winter 2011 collection and paired with Midnight Sapphire it’s especially spectacular.

So tell me what you think… do you like the fall shades? What are your favorites? I’d never experienced any other CND’s so tell me which ones you think I should try!

It’s Just A Bunch of Hocus Pocus

Being traditional, I had to partake in the OPI Halloween nail art contest again this year. My last years design (Nightmare Before Christmas) would have worked well since the theme was Halloween Movies. Well here’s the thing, now EVERYONE is doing Nightmare Before Christmas, so I did Hocus Pocus!

Thumb is the book of spells, index is Sarah Jessica Parker Playing Sarah, Middle is Bette Midler playing Winnie, Index is Kathy Najimy playing Mary, the pinky is the black flame candle.

For this design I used (all OPI) Nail Envy as a base coat, Don’t Mess With OPI, Black Onyx, Alpine Snow, Pros & Bronze, DS Coronation, DS Radiance, San Tan-tonio, A-Taupe The Space Needle, Suzi Loves Cowboys, Fiercely Fiona, Congeniality is My Middle Name, Golden Rules, Roadhouse Blues, Take The Stage, A Ruby For Rudolph, I Only Drink Champagne, Blue My Mind!, and a swish of Seche Vite Top Coat.

I didn’t really enter to win, it was just a nice tradition to participate annually :) The ladies that entered really made me up my game- some seriously talented nail artists are coming out of the woodwork! I actually sort of love/hate my design here but I’m too lazy to redo anything on it HAH! Oh well, what’s a girl to do. Cross for beautifully painted finger(nails) for me!

Want Some Monkey Bread? Eeeeek! (And A Nail Art Contest!)

Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, you LOOK like a monkey, and ya SMELL like one too!!!
That is the song that I woke up singing. Yes indeed, it is my birthday today! 22 whopping years have passed. I decided that since that version of happy birthday has me looking like a monkey, it was time to do the design that I promised I’d do on facebook a few weeks ago.
When my Nicole By OPI Blogger Spotlight first came out, a person on facebook said that the position of my hand looked like a monkey claw and that I should find a different one. Since I don’t really get affected by random strangers’ insults, some fellow readers and I decided that it was actually pretty funny and that it’d make a good design- a way to overcome the insult and turn it into something good…. Well now is the time, my friends…. its… THE CLAWWWWWWW!!!!! (and if you’re wondering what that reference is… dear Red Stewart and Cathy Richardson nicknamed me MC for Monkey Claw based on The Claw from Liar Liar  AND if you’re wondering what the title of this post is about, its a funny quote from the movie Beauty Shop and it fit right in today).
Without Further Ado:
From left to right: Curious George, Abu from Aladdin, Rafiki from The Lion King, and a Sock Monkey. Rafiki is special to me, since well, the love of my life is a Rafiki…. or rather Rafik. Close enough :-)
I used a mix of OPI and Nicole By OPI for this design because I didn’t have enough of just one or the other to do all of it in one brand.
I started with OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, OPI Alpine Snow, OPI Ya’ll Come Back Ya Hear?, OPI Ski Teal We Drop, Nicole By OPI Razzle Dazzler, OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys, Nicole By OPI I’m A Belieber, OPI Fiercely Fiona, Nicole By OPI Red-y To Runaway Love?, OPI San Tan-tonio, Nicole By OPI “Baby” Blue, OPI Dating A Royal, and OPI Skull and Glossbones. Topped everything with a coat of Seche Vite.

The products in this post were sent to me by the manufacturer. For further information, please read my disclosure statement.

The theme of the nail art?
CELEBRATION!!

Life for me has been filled with LOTS of celebrations of good things lately- birthdays, graduations, new beginnings etc and so I’d like to see you create a design that shows your happy celebratory side!!!

In addition to your design, write a short blurb on your design and anything good going on in your life lately, even if it’s the smallest thing in the world. We all have reasons to be happy but sometimes we get wrapped up in stress and forget. I want you to realize that you have things to be happy about and to celebrate!

So in short, send me an email with your follower name, do a celebration nail art design by hand, explain your reasons for celebrating even if its small, pick a Nicole By OPI Polish that is your favorite, and then email me your entry at tfardellone@gmail.com before June 30th at 11:59pm EDT. The winner will be picked by me based on your overall story and design and I will put the winners nail art on my blog in the winner’s announcement post!
Happy Painting!
xoxo The Monkey Claw
