A Weed is Just an Unplanned Wildflower

First, I LOVE the ideas you all have been leaving in your giveaway entries for what you’d like to see me do as nail art. I wanted to thank you all for being so inventive! I counted up all of the ideas that I’ve received so far, and the general consensus was (other than one idea that I will address in a minute) that you all wanted to see a spring/flower design. I’ve avoided these because, well, I SUCK at doing them! hahaha… regardless, you ask and I do my best to deliver :-) It was also a great way to show you some of the new China Glaze Island Escape shades!

For this design, I used OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, OPI Gargantuan Green Grape, OPI Greenwich Village, OPI Don’t Mess With OPI, China Glaze Cha Cha Cha, OPI Alpine Snow, OPI Cabana Banana, China Glaze Senorita Bonita, China Glaze 108 Degrees, OPI Black Onyx, OPI Here Today…Aragon Tomorrow, and China Glaze Blue Iguana (love!) topped with a coat of Seche Vite. I also did a gradient of the greens in the background since that was another requested design… though I will do some more without a design on top.

The Island Escape Shades are divine! Blue Iguana is a blue mica shimmer with a purply duochrome shimmer. LOVE IT!! Some of the shades are mica shimmers, and some are cremes.. but all are original in my opinion. I can think of a few close matches, but man I really love this collection!! You’ll see them more soon!

NOW. I don’t know if you have been following my updates on twitter or facebook, but I just have to get something off of my chest. I’m not one to complain, but I feel like I need to vent here.

I am honored when I have new followers, which is a common experience when one holds a giveaway. I do however have a problem with people entering a giveaway, JUST to enter a giveaway… without even looking around first. SEVERAL (like, 30 in 250+ entries) people said that for design ideas, they want to see Konading or Stamping. This hurts me, people. If you read the blurb at the top of my blog, flip through ANY of my designs, or have EVER spoken/emailed/tweeted/facebooked with me, you know that I only do freehand nail art.

I’m not trying to offend anyone at all here but its discouraging when people enter a giveaway for free stuff without even taking FIVE minutes to read what the blog is about. It makes me think, should I be holding any more giveaways? I don’t hold them to get new followers, I hold them to show appreciation for the ones who keep this blog going- all of you! I spend money on giveaway products, I get companies involved, and I wonder if its worth the effort if someone wins who doesn’t even know what my blog is about. I only require that you are a follower to enter because a) I can keep track of entries that way and b) I want to know that I’m not just buying random stuff for strangers- I want to know giveaways will go to people who appreciate them and who actually read my blog (or look at the pictures!). So doesn’t it make it pointless then to follow just to enter a giveaway and then not look around? Another pet peeve is when someone follows just to enter, then they unfollow (sometimes even before the giveaway ends!)… its not about numbers, its about nerve- just following for free stuff irks the hell out of me!

I put SO much time into my freehand nail art and I wouldn’t make such a big deal about this if I hadn’t made it WELL known in the past that I ONLY do freehand art, but come on…. its been the major focus of my blog since day one! Its right below my blog title!

I really appreciate each and every one of you, old or new, so I hope you understand where I am coming from. You’re still more than welcome to enter the giveaway, even if you are new. I don’t want you to feel pushed away or singled out and I don’t expect you to go through months of posts in a day, or ever for that matter. But at least do a minute of browsing and see what I’m about… ya dig?

I want to hear what you think… am I deluded or in the right here?

Everyday, Zen’s The Way

A close family member of mine gave me this amazing book a few weeks ago called Everyday Zen by Charlotte Joko Beck. Its been amazingly helpful because it has insights you can use every single day. Due to end of college/beginning of life stress, you better believe that its been great to have on hand. So, today’s design is inspired by the cover- a sand and rock garden….

I used Color Club Sweet seduction as a base with OPI San-Tantonio mixed with OPI Alpine snow sponged on to make the sandy texture (which you can’t see in a picture-only in real life, go figure). Then I used Clarins 103 (Pink Shimmer) over everything to make it look like 3d grains of sand….  I THEN used OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys for the lines in the sand and a mix of OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous, China Glaze Cracked Concrete, OPI Black Shatter, and OPI Alpine Snow for the rocks. Topped off with one coat of Seche Vite and in person, its a wicked 3d sand garden and in pictures, it looks… sort of like one. :-)
