I  had my first “day” of classes, but since its mid-week, most sections and such don’t start until next week, so all I had today was a really super-fun-looking astronomy class. Now that I’m a senior, I can afford to take fun classes, right? Consequently, I did astronomy nails for you today! Sorry about the thumb, the telescope is supposed to be looking AT all those sexy celestial objects, but, I just can’t get my thumb to bend that way! I had to make do and put it below. Hope you understand the concept!

The Heavens, are, full of sparkles?
Oi Vey! Okie dokie. For this manicure, I started with one coat of OPI’s Natural Nail Base Coat, one coat of Sinful Colors Black on Black and one coat of Icing’s Blackout.
For the thumb, I used Icing’s Envy for the grass, China Glaze’s Emerald Fitzgerald for the telesecope tube (my telescope is a green 8″ reflector if you were wondering, hence the green tube here), OPI DS Radiance for the silver details on the telescope, Sally Hansen’s Lavender Cloud with Sinful Colors Black on Black for the moon.
For the ring finger, I used Milani’s Cyberspace, Milani’s Hi Tech, and Finger Paints Easel-y Entertained for The Lagoon Nebula.
For the pinkie, I used Misa’s Haute Hippie, Sally Hansen’s Rapid Red, and Sinful Colors Pearl Harbor for the random nebula for which I can’t find a name on google.
I then topped everything off with two coats Seche Vite, and on Jupiter, after the Seche Vite dried, two coats of China Glaze’s Matte Magic.
The Colors:
Since this post is so long, and so many colors were used in such tiny amounts, I’ll only cover one big one here and leave the rest for when I use them more substantially.
Icing’s Blackout is an amazing black jelly with holographic glitter imbeded within the polish. Rumor has it that it’s a dupe for Nfu- Oh GS14, which is a hard to find and more expensive color. To be honest, I am in absolute love with this color even when just layered over black because it has such a great star quality. I love simple constellation manicures, and if you do too, this one is for you. I wore it five days once without chippage, which is rare for an icing polish, but it looked great even then! I usually layer over black, not because of its sheerness, but because I don’t want to waste such a beautiful polish on layering.ALSO:I’ve been lemming an emerald green holo, which OPI says that they’ll try to get working on *lets hope so* but I decided to franken my own in the meantime. I don’t have a name for it, but I was thinking of Emerald Eyes, whatta ya think?

I mixed five drops of China Glaze’s Emerald Fitzgerald with two drops of Nicole by OPI’s Lemon Lime Twist, and two drops of Nfu Oh’s 61. The thumb, which is a tidge lighter, had only 3 drops of Emerald Fitz but I darkened it for the rest of the fingers. I would have loved a pure emerald, but this color is nice too, more of a jade I think….

Also, my mom made Rafik an amazing birthday present, which I have to put up here because its so gosh darn amazing looking. Steal these pictures, and I will hunt you down. No, really… I will. Our apartment doesn’t have great light, so there’s one picture that’s with a flash so you can see the detail, but it blocks out the lion in the clouds, so I put a blurry, non flash picture up so you can see the cool lion in the sky. Rafik likes lions, and my mom likes cross stitching. She’s a crafting genius and there will be more of her projects on here soon. In fact, I’ll be using her beaded ornaments (to die for) as a nail design in the near future.

Its 9″ x 12″ and all cross stitched by hand.

Holy Holo!!

I have a present for you….. its really and truly a gift. No, its not a giveaway, that’ll be at post 50 or something! This, is the sparkly, magical goodness of Nfu Oh 61. Now, this polish has had its picture taken many times and has been featured on many blogs- but that’s because its just so gosh darn pretty. Jewels and gemstones ain’t got NOTHIN’ on Nfu Oh 61!

The Holiest of Holos

For this manicure, I used one coat of OPI’s Natural Nail Base Coat, three coats of Nfu Oh’s #061 and no topcoat. I even (accidentally) tilted my pinky so you could see what it looks like on an angle. Its actually a silver holographic but because its so holo, its more rainbow than anything.

The Color:
Do I need to say anything? Really? Are you sure because this polish speaks for itself. It throws rainbows better than diamonds! The bottle should say “WARNING: Wear at your own risk, causes distraction and awe. Don’t drive and admire. Friends don’t let friends drive stupified.” The formula is a little strange, compared to other holo favorites like OPI’s My Private Jet Holographic version (that was the plan for today but I got distracted when I got this in the mail) or OPI’s Blue Moon Lagoon. It goes on a bit patchy, but for this color, I’d deal with anything! If you want to blind someone, just hold up your hand and flashy- flashy Nfu Oh 61 at them!

Also for your viewing pleasure: as I mentioned, before this came in the mail from a LOVELY swapper on MUA, I planned on doing OPI’s My Private Jet versus Color Clubs Revvvolution, which has been done plenty but I needed my own. When I use dark holos, I always use a dark base. I don’t use the base because they are too transparent (which is pretty much the case) but because I don’t want to waste holo goodness on more than 2 coats (that budgeting thing makes me feel guilty otherwise)…

FingerPaints Shades of Dark

For THIS manicure, which I hastily removed for Nfu Oh regardless of its greatness, I used one coat OPI’s Natural Nail Base Coat, two coats FingerPaints Shades of Dark and one coat of Seche Vite top coat.

I personally have several dark vampy plum colors for use in layering and when I’m feeling particularly moody or trendy, but this one is a great staple in anyones collection. The jelly polish goes on smooth and is dark purple after one coat. After two, its hard to tell if its purple or black, but its so darn smooth no one bothers to care. Its only downfall is that like most jellies, it tends to flood cuticles easily and bleed a bit into the gap. No worries though, its nothing a good brush and acetone can’t fix!

So. I’m blinded- I just stared at my nails for too long. How about you?
