Bottom Of The “Ocean” Blue

Today I treated myself with hanging out by one of the pools in our new apartment complex. It is because of the sun and water that I decided to do today’s design! First, let me show you the pool because you’ll understand why I was so in awe:

Yes, those are my toes. Each level has its own swimming area, so the pool is WAY bigger than it looks here… and each one has at least one waterfall- most have 2 or 3!!! Needless to say I got a good tan and enjoyed the water!!

Now for the design. This is just a quick one! I forgot to take a sparkle shot on before the swirls so I caught one before I did the swirls on my right hand for you….

For this one I started with OPI natural Nail Base coat and did 2 coats of Nicole By OPI Me+ Blue. Since it has holo glitter in it, I wanted to really rev up the tips so I added with sponging three coats of Nicole By OPI Make A Comet-ment as a gradient, which only shows a little in the pictures. I used OPI Alpine Snow for the swirls…. Topped with a coat of Seche Vite. Not my favorite design since it really obscures the glitz of it, but in hindsight I’ll make bigger and fewer swirls! Cleanup was tough since my cuticles are dry- which means blue stains and glitter sticks, but after a few handwashings it’ll come off I suppose….

Here’s the sparkle shot!!! Its darker and MUCH more glitzy in person

Don’t forget to enter my nail art contest themed on Celebration! To win Nicole By OPI’s Something About Spring Collection!!! xoxo

Abby Inspired

Many of you know Tracey of Ginger Kitty Designs. I was inspired to try one of her nail polish ring designs on my nails today, since I’m still a bit sick (though getting better), but I had some other stuff to do so I didn’t have quite enough time for a real art design.

The ring on GingerKitty’s Etsy is called the Abby Ring because a woman named Abby inspired it. The ring was created by layering Color Club Revvvolution with Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure. I changed it a bit by layering Nubar 2010 over Glitter Gal Black Holographic because even though I have Revvvolution, I thought the holographic of Black would be stronger. Straight on it reminds me of a galatic star field, but it throws off amazing greens, yellows and oranges in different light.

Now, I love this design SO much, but on my nails, I wouldn’t waste Glitter Gals Black Holographic on it again. Instead I’d just use a flat black because I have to ration the GG black since its so pretty. However, I would definitely use it if I were getting a ring created for that extra oomph. The Glitter Gal Black Holographic is a *phenomenal* one coat wonder of a true black linear holographic, which makes up for the MUCH smaller full size of the Glitter Gal polishes (0.3fl oz) because you’re only using one coat for full coverage. I’m KICKING myself for not taking pictures during the process so you could see, but I didn’t intend on actually posting so it was a bit of a spur of the moment design to even take pictures of the final product.

Since I won Glitter Gal Black and Glitter Gal Red from Konad-licious, I hoped she wouldn’t mind if I put a link to HER swatch of Black. It’s really stunning and her blog is great, so go check her out!

Zoya Valerie

So I didn’t plan on doing anything nail related today, but I wanted to play with one of my new polishes that came in the 3 Free Zoya promo (for those of you who don’t know, Zoya did a promotion where they gave three polishes away for free when they hit 20,000 facebook fans). I ended up liking the result so I figured I’d show you right quick.
Straight On Shot of Zoya Valerie (Flash)
No Flash (trying to show Wine color, its not showing up well)
Blurry Sparkle Shot of Holo Top Coat

For this manicure I used one coat of Zoya Valerie with one coat of Northern Lights Top Coat. Since the top coat is so sparkly, you can’t see the glass flecked goodness of this polish in my pictures. The polish is an amazing purple with a wine/chocolate/red colored glass fleck finish. See here’s the thing, I was sort of scarred growing up with all of the purple (and hearts) I was given (suitcases, dresses, PJs, shirts, etc etc etc) because the people around me loved purple and thought I did too… well I didn’t. So now I have a natural aversion to purple, but I LOVE this polish. I love it even more with the holo top coat but it could definitely be worn without it for a more sophisticated look.

PS Note my thumb is turned in all three pictures. Its healing well enough so I suppose more OPI Art Series shall arrive tomorrow!! Stay tuned!
