It’s Just A Bunch of Hocus Pocus

Being traditional, I had to partake in the OPI Halloween nail art contest again this year. My last years design (Nightmare Before Christmas) would have worked well since the theme was Halloween Movies. Well here’s the thing, now EVERYONE is doing Nightmare Before Christmas, so I did Hocus Pocus!

Thumb is the book of spells, index is Sarah Jessica Parker Playing Sarah, Middle is Bette Midler playing Winnie, Index is Kathy Najimy playing Mary, the pinky is the black flame candle.

For this design I used (all OPI) Nail Envy as a base coat, Don’t Mess With OPI, Black Onyx, Alpine Snow, Pros & Bronze, DS Coronation, DS Radiance, San Tan-tonio, A-Taupe The Space Needle, Suzi Loves Cowboys, Fiercely Fiona, Congeniality is My Middle Name, Golden Rules, Roadhouse Blues, Take The Stage, A Ruby For Rudolph, I Only Drink Champagne, Blue My Mind!, and a swish of Seche Vite Top Coat.

I didn’t really enter to win, it was just a nice tradition to participate annually :) The ladies that entered really made me up my game- some seriously talented nail artists are coming out of the woodwork! I actually sort of love/hate my design here but I’m too lazy to redo anything on it HAH! Oh well, what’s a girl to do. Cross for beautifully painted finger(nails) for me!

Linear Lineup

I wanted to try out some lovely polishes that I received as gifts in a nail art design, but I don’t know if I love it or hate it. First, my dear friend Katie gave me OPI Black Satin, a vhtf (very hard to find) polish that is gorgeous. its almost a blackened gray frost but its anything but a regular frost. I wanted to see if I layered another gift, made by my friend Lori and given to me by my dear friend Jeanie would jazz it up even more… a linear holographic topcoat. It did and it came out absolutely gorgeous. But, I wasn’t done and this is where the trouble started. I wanted to try OPI’s new shade My Address Is Hollywood, but I didn’t know how to make it look nice with a gray holo, so I added OPI’s The IT Color, and both ended up covering up more of the base than I intended. Regardless, I still LOVE the base polishes and eh, I’ll take it off tomorrow and do another design. :) I hope you like it though!

For this design I started with OPI Natural Nail Base Coat and two coats of OPI Black Satin. I then topped with one coat of Lori’s special Spectraflair Topcoat and then did lines with OPI’s new shade My Address Is “Hollywood” and OPI’s The IT Color. Topped with Seche Vite and this is what you have!

I will be using all of these shades in the future (hopefully separately!) to give you a better idea of how gorgeous they all are. My Address is “Hollywood” isn’t just a flat creme, but as with many of the new shades in the Touring America Collection, it has a subtle shimmer that I love oh-so-much!

Thank you Katie and Jeanie!

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, I Need More…

Tonight, I get to see my favorite band of all time play! Yes, Motley Crue is my favorite for nostalgia’s sake, but overall my favorite? They don’t hold the top spot. No, the top spot is held by the band A Perfect Circle and I am CRAZY LUCKY to be able to go. They just got back together recently and have been touring. Their shows sell out in 3 minutes or less and I’ve never heard of one of their show NOT selling out. When I found out they were coming to Atlanta, I flipped. Then, they were sold out (of course). I was devastated. THEN I found tickets online and snatched those suckers up!!! The design today is based off of their album covers of my two favorite albums by them (okay, yeah they only have three albums, so what)…. The left hand (top) is for their album Mer De Norms, and the bottom is for Thirteenth Step. The also have eMotive, which has some GREAT songs too, but most of my favorites come from these two.

For the left hand: I started with OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, OPI Black Onyx and OPI Midnight in Moscow (sponged over certain spots of Black Onyx). Then I sponged some OPI Take The Stage (which I also used for the thumb symbols) and some OPI Quarter of A Cent-ury. For the duality circle symbol I used OPI Chop-Sticking To My Story and for the white I used OPI Alpine Snow. Topped with a coat of Seche Vite.

For my right hand I used OPI Natural Nail Base Coat as a base with Alpine Snow. I sponged on some OPI Skull & Glossbones and then used OPI The IT Color for their duality circle symbol. Lettering was done with Black Onyx and again topped with Seche Vite.
